Previous Entry Next Entry

09:22 pm - Upon review, it has come to my attention...
... that I wind up selecting gangsta rap titles for effect in the "Currently Listening To" section of my LJ entries considerably more often than I'm actually listening to gangsta rap.

This should probably tell me something Deep and Meaningful.

... if anybody figures out WHAT deep and meaningful thing it should be telling me, please, lemme know.

it's not deep and meaningful, it's just, y'know, you're trying to be clever or something.

I wondered about that: "Man, home dawg is ALWAYS listenin' to some gangsta shit! Bwoo-yeah!"

[incidentally, I'm currently listenin' to "Mama Said Knock You Out." No lie. It's on the "Old School Rap" channel on moontaxi. Man, me loves some internet radio.]

Heh, a couple weeks ago I was over at my friend Kathy's place fixing her girlfriend's computer, and hooking her up with some MP3s while I was at it. I kept inflicting SERIOUS oldskool rap on her just for the sheer entertainment value... like UTFO - Bite It. Which, if you've never heard it, includes opening sound effects that sound like the evil Gremlins scratching on the turntables and beatboxing.

"Our rhymes are recited! And we are delighted! To give you permission to - BITE IT!"

The worst is listening to 80's LL Cool J stuff though. That brother rapped just PAINFULLY damn slow back then - "Radio?" Oh my god, if he was any slower, you could put the vocals on top of "Here Comes The Bride" and he'd have been on time... =)

"when I'm alone in my room, sometimes I stare at the wall"

You've definitely "school"ed (aaahh!) me with this stuff. I've never heard of either of those songs.

funny, semi-related story: there's a bit on Coolio's 'Gangsta's Paradise' cd, I think it's entitled "Recoup This," in which some woman screams and goes, "You done shot Mr. Johnson!" I recorded that part on my computer and set it as the alert sound. My roommate was using my computer for some paper and managed to sound off the alert. It was quite hilarious, that computer screaming at her. She 'bout died.

Re: "when I'm alone in my room, sometimes I stare at the wall"

Heh, I used to customize all the sounds Windows made, but I quit eventually. First, I discovered that hearing the DI from Full Metal Jacket bellowing "WHAT is your MAJOR malfunction, NUMB NUTS?!" at you when a critical system error occurs just makes you want to throw your computer out the window, and then one night just as I was getting out of the shower, I got an email.

To understand why this is significant, you first need to understand that I have the computer hooked into my stereo, second, that my stereo is a frightening evil beast, and thirdly that I had the "email received" wav set to this particularly MANIACAL laughter from a Monty Python sketch.

So JUST as I open the door and walk out of the bathroom dripping wet and naked, this incredibly loud maniacal giggling comes bellowing out at me...

start --> settings --> control panel --> sounds --> sound scheme --> Windows default --> APPLY

Everything is scarier when you're naked, I've found.
