I made the mistake of watching FNC earlier today and started to get mad at one of their commentators that was debating with some governors.
Apparently the commentator believes that they should drop their 31cent/gallon gas tax to relieve the pressure on their communities... when the prices have gone up over a dollar in the last month, and more than 40 cents in a single day (in some areas). The governors tried to explain that the money was needed (more so since rebuilding is necessary) and that they were already investigating price gouging since the price of a barrel of oil hadn't gone up significantly during the time before the crisis. The FNC commentator, of course, said that they were wrong to pursue the oil companies and had to work to remove taxes.
Now... while I dont disagree that the taxes on the gas should be lower... I swear that someone would only defend 40 cent a day raises in gas prices (in non affected areas no less) on FNC.
Of course, I also think that the $3.00/gallon mark here is about right for the price, if only because it will encourage people to drive less and drive more sensible cars more sensibly :)
Er... Please carry on with your previously scheduled presidential mockery.
