12:52 am - looks like Google changed their algorithms again
Suddenly, I went from being completely un-googleable by my first-and-last-name (even when combined with any salting of locality and/or interest information you might think of) to first-and-last-name only - no salting of extra keywords - returning me as the third listing on the front page (as well as several more further down).

I'm not completely sure how I feel about that. Having a well-known nom de guerre is one thing, but when real life meets the internet too intimately... yergh.

That's nothing, you should see your Wikipedia article! I had no idea that you were into olympic figure skating!

Its amazing what kind of asshole or myspace-dweeb comes up when I type in any version of my name. Its made me realize that there are at least 5 other people out there with the same name though, so I guess its not all bad.

Nothing that points (directly) to me exists on the entarweb though. You could find part of my name using my screen names if you had the resources and time, but you couldn't find my screen names using my name.

This is also happening to me now, whereas before it was just a lot of baseball stuff. Fuck, I liked being hard to track down.

The strangest thing about it is, I suddenly popped up all the way to the #3 spot even though someone with my name is a WIDELY published AP writer, someone else with my name is a prize-winning author, and someone yet ELSE is a screenwriter.

It looks to me like what happened is they put more googlejuice on usenet and mailing list archives than they used to - because the only thing online connecting my biz name to my name is a bunch of old rsync mailing list posts (which also used to be unfindable, interestingly) and my biz name is what rocketed up to #3 on the front page.
