01:12 pm - And what a long, strange trip it's been
Guess what? As of today about 4:20 PM Friday, (yes, really) I'm a HOMEOWNER! For the first time, which frankly I am a little embarassed about at age 35. But nevertheless, no more rent! I feel like I graduated. (Am I a grown-up now?)

(More pics available if you click this one.)

I am so freaking excited. I can't wait to be moved out of my dingy man-cave of an apartment and into MY HOUSE. =)

Congratulations! You are, indeed, a grown-up now.

Unsolicited advice: Get the home owner's warranty for at least the first year in case something major worked during inspection but quits after you use it once or twice (appliances, air conditioning, heating, etc...)

Our air went out soon after we moved in. With the warranty, it was just $70 deductible and the money for a new concrete pad to meet code.

Actually, the last homeowner's warranty is still good until September (and transferred to me). Haven't really decided for sure about extending it any further. I tend to kinda be a pay-as-you-go sorta guy.

Congratulations! Loving the kitchen.

My homeowner advice is don't buy and then move 6,000 miles away! Oh wait. I'm on the verge of doing that a second time. I'm not so good at this following my own advice thing.

I like the tag...

Congrats... I am hoping to do the same before this year ends. Tired of living at the mercy of fucking landlords.

Hell yes. Landlords suck.

Not to mention the hideous financial waste that rent is. If I'd bought a house - however mean and unimpressive - 10 years ago, I'd be worth $80K-100K more today without having actually had to spend a penny more of my income.

Congrats! Get ready to spend an inordinate amount of time at Lowe's, Home Depot, and the like!

And, wow, what a yard. I also like the interior French door, the little built-in shelves in the kitchen, and the hardwood floors. Good job.

Congratulations! And you don't have to be a grown up just because you have a house. I have a kid, and I'm not a grown up. Although, I guess if you wanted to be a grown up, you could always blame it on the house!

Jimbo, congrats! Honestly; how cool...you get all kinds of fun stuff to do now...if you like that sort of stuff (which I do, so owning your own home is really a lot of fun).

Enjoy...and it is beautiful.

And I second the suggestion to extend your warrantee.

I'm happy for you man. I'm actually surprised it took this long for you to get fed up with the rental life!

Although, to be fair, you didn't really have the option of living with your parents for a year while you saved up the down payment money either :)
