06:32 pm - Calamity Jane is here
And after 28 hrs of fucking brutal labor followed up with a semi-emergency Cesarean section, she didn't waste any time earning her sobriquet!

She was born this morning and weighed 9 lbs 8.9 ozs, 20" long - which had a lot to do with the need for the C-section. That is one BIG, strong, healthy baby. Full head of hair, big wide eyes looking around at everything. She is great.

Janis had a really rough time of it obviously, but she is doing well and she and Jane will get to come home from the hospital after 3 days.

Pics forthcoming soon - the only ones I have now are on my iPhone, and I pretty much killed its charge dead.

I'm a daddy!

PS: you know how they never get newborns right on TV shows? I'll tell you something else they don't even get CLOSE to right - the umbilical cord. Holy crap those things look crazy!

Only on TV can you see a woman birth a four month old.

Congratulations to the both of you, and best of luck.

It'd certainly be a rhetorical question - kid looks incredibly like me. Hell, she's got my hair by color, length, texture, straightness... even down to the part, weirdly enough. My nose and my tendency to "spock eyebrows", too.

Congrats for sure. I'm way looking forward to pictures of the new little person in your family.

Placentas are nasty looking things too. I remember the nurses being all excited about Serra's because it was so big and healthy, they asked if they could use it for a visual aid for their next lamaze class. I just wanted it the fuck away from me.

28 hours? Holy snikey, that poor woman. I hope Janis recovers quickly and smoothly.

Congratulations to you and Janis. Welcome to Jane. I'm getting all nostalgic now thinking about the first time Calliope snuggled into my shoulder for a nap. And baby laughs. And twinkly eyes. And chubby limbs.

You're in for it, now, but it's so worth it.
