10:31 pm - I haz a son. I haz a son... I HAZ A SON!

Jacob Ruffin Salter, aka "Finn", was born at 0530 on 10/11/10, weighing in at a whopping 10lbs 9oz and 20.5" long. The two most frequent comments from hospital staff were "what a beautiful baby boy" and "wow, you guys gave birth to a toddler." I labeled the scale on the blueprint in cms, but clearly Janis built in inches!

Much like his big sister Jane (who was 9 lbs 9 oz at birth), he came out of the womb with eyes wide open, lifted his head up all on his own, knew immediately who his daddy was, and screamed bloody murder at anybody BUT daddy who touched him for the first hour and a half or so.

This incubator was in our Labor&Delivery room. We did not place Finn in it.

Heh, my middle child wasn't as heavy, but nearly 23 inches long. He is now 6'5". I suggest buying stock in your local agribusiness conglomerate, since about 12-14 years from now, you're going to need all the food you can get.

Congratulations!!

Congrats! Beautiful kid.

Everyone is popping out rugrats lately.

(I really hope the explosion hazard was only a reference to use near oxygen or something like that... yikes!)

splodin babies

Wow, they even wrote the warning in French. They must totally mean it!

He's beautiful and also - OW!

Justin was 7 lbs 4 ounces and the doctor said anything larger would have required a cesarean section. I ended up with a fourth tear anyway which, ugh!

His cousin was born the day after him, one pound heavier and beside him, she looked enormous.

I can't even imagine what a 10 pound 9 ounce newborn would look like.

Congrats!

Re: splodin babies

I wasn't kidding when I said I kept hearing "you gave birth to a toddler." I heard it twice more today.

Kid has unreal lungs for a newborn, too. He's generally pretty chilled out now, but for those first couple of hours when he screamed bloody murder at anybody but me, the nurses in the nursery had to give up trying to communicate with each other while he was yelling. They just plain couldn't hear each other over him. Which was cracking them up, because they talk over screaming newborns ALL. DAY. LONG.

Your dawwwwww moment of the day: when Mom brought Jane in to visit about 4PM today, Janis asked her "do you want to give your brother a hug?" Jane nodded promptly and ran over to Janis, and gently laid her head along Finn's head for a moment and smiled. DAWWWWWWWWWW

Re: splodin babies

Kids man, they don't just change your life, they change who you are.

Robert and I will be watching tv or we'll spot a wee toddler in a mall and we have the DAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW moments with stranger's kids too now.

You'll get a child smile hugely in your face or you'll see one spontaneously dancing in the middle of the dog food aisle or they'll offer you a soggy cookie at the check out and it will bring you back to that very moment your kid looked like that/did that and you get a rebound DAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW moment again.

I hear it's even more ridiculously intense when it's your grandchild, and I'm going to go ahead and agree with that right now, because everything that they say is going to happen to you as you age, so far - is bang on.

Did you get Jane's moment on film, well, you know, a modern image taker device? Because that was pretty special.

(Just look at that icon face! It makes me all gooey and smiley every time I see it.)

His face is so formed. It's not all newborn-squishy in the picture.

That's fantastic, congrats to you both. He's beautiful, not all shrunken and not yellow with a conehead like my nephew. :-)

He is in fact precious.

For someone who hasn't kept up with you as well as I should, the idea of you being married with a couple of chirrens is really bizarre. But you're obviously happier than a pig in shit, and for that I am glad. :)
