03:14 pm - EU takes it to Microsoft to the tune of $600 million plus
Microsoft has paid the (just over $600 million) fine levied against it by the European Commission for abusing its dominance in the operating systems market, a Commission spokesperson confirms.

With an estimated $50 billion in cash reserves, $600 million isn't exactly going to wipe 'em out - but I'm glad they did get stuck with the full fine. It's not time for major celebration yet, though, because the real battle is still ahead. What hasn't yet been resolved is whether Microsoft will be forced to unbundle Windows Media Player from Windows, and provide interface specifications to the OS for competing application vendors. Stick with it, EU - we need you on this.

Why you always be buggin' on them poor heroes of Redmond? What'd they ever do to you, other than provide a plethora of smart and capable operating systems for you to use?
