Re: MP3 players rule.

I almost got an iPod at Circuit City, because Best Buy was out of the Carbon that I really wanted. The lines were inhumanly long though, so I got pissed off enough to just drop the thing on the shelf while commenting "I hope somebody steals it" (since they had it in a locked cage that ALSO took me forever to get somebody to open originally) and walked out.

Had to go back to Best Buy like 2 hours later to pick up some DVD+RW media, and holy shit, there was one on the shelf! The restocking fairy loves me!

But yeah, anyway, part of the reason I succumbed to my pissed-off-ness about the lines at Circuit City was that the iPod, even though it was 15GB instead of 5GB and the same price (on Open Box special, anyway) was SIGNIFICANTLY larger and heavier. I mean it'll still fit in a pocket, sure, but the Carbon's small enough that even in the little tiny flimsy pocket in running shorts it disappears and you don't feel it flapping up and down when you run or anything. Totally worth the tradeoff in space to me; I don't need ALL my music in the thing anyway, just plenty of upbeat stuff for working out / running / whatever. And even though I didn't buy it for airplane trips, it'll still rock for that, because I'd been using an MP3-CD player, and hell, this holds almost ten CDs worth of MP3s, so bonus!

Still using an MP3-CD deck in the car, though. No way in hell is an adapter coming from the Carbon going to sound as good as an actual deck.

Re: MP3 players rule.

Yeah, the size thing does kinda suck, but luckily the treadmill I use at home has a little spot I can stick it in. I don't really go running outside. I work out at Curves, gym-wise, and there are periodic "announcements" and music already playing, so I don't use it there.

But it's a HECK of a lot easier than the big folder of CDs I always carried around, and it's awesome to have all my music right on hand, since I'm a huge music-hoarder. :) I almost wish I'd gotten the bigger one so I could put MORE songs on it.

Sound-wise, there's a little fuzz when the radio station I'm tuning through goes wonky, but in general it sounds pretty darn good. I'm driving a mini-van, though, so I don't exactly have a thumpin' system going on. :)
